A ceremonial meeting and gala concert in honor of the 88th anniversary of Solikamsk Magnesium Plant OJSC (SMZ OJSC, an enterprise of the Mining Division of the Rosatom State Corporation) were held in the Solikamsk cinema "Rus".
“The enterprise has become part of the big family of the Rosatom State Corporation. The mining division begins to implement ambitious plans for the development of the plant. This is the construction of a large separation plant, the production of tantalum metal and other projects. I am confident that together we will certainly solve these problems in the shortest possible time,” said Alexey Shemetov, First Deputy Head of the Mining Division of the Rosatom State Corporation, opening the ceremonial events.
The six best employees of SMZ OJSC were awarded Certificates of Gratitude from the head of the Mining Division of Rosatom. Among them is the head of the workshop for the production of rare earth metals, Andrey Anisimov. In his response, he stated: “I consider this recognition of the merits of the entire workshop team, who fulfilled the plan, despite all the difficulties. In 2024, as part of the Rosatom Production System, we will begin implementing a project to optimize the process of overhauling the loparite chlorinator.”
The main award of the enterprise remains the title “Honorary Magnesium Manufacturer”. This year, Alexander Zebzeev, an operator in the production of titanium and rare metals at the experimental workshop, was awarded a high title. His work experience at SMZ is 45 years.
“I never dreamed of high awards - I just worked, minded my own business. I always considered it the most interesting and necessary for the plant,” said Alexander Zebzeev.
The award was presented by the General Director of OJSC SMZ Ruslan Dimukhamedov. He noted that the plant is the most important sovereign supplier of raw materials for the entire Russian high-tech industry. “We look to the future with confidence and do our job well. We will continue to implement social projects for our employees and contribute to improving the quality of life in Solikamsk,” the head of the enterprise emphasized.
Words of congratulations were also heard from the head of the industry department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Perm Territory, Vladimir Kapitonov, the head of the Solikamsk urban district, Evgeniy Samoukov, the chairman of the Perm regional committee of the mining and metallurgical trade union of Russia, Alexander Shtin, and other guests. 50 magnesium workers were awarded letters of gratitude and diplomas at the regional, city and plant levels.
The festive concert was attended by plant employees, enterprise veterans, children of magnesium workers and invited groups.

On March 14, 1936, the first bath of the electrolysis shop of the Solikamsk magnesium plant (Perm region) produced the first magnesium. This date is considered the birthday of the enterprise.
Since 1958, work began on the isolation of rare earth metals from loparite concentrate. Today, the company produces 100% of compounds of rare earth elements, niobium and tantalum, 75% of magnesium and 4% of titanium in Russia. In accordance with Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 38 dated January 26, 2023 and Order of the Government of Russia No. 3525-r dated December 08, 2023, the shares of Solikamsk Magnesium Plant OJSC were transferred to the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom as a property contribution to the Russian Federation.
The mining division of Rosatom consolidates the chain from mining to production of rare earth metals, and its key task is the development of separation production at OJSC SMZ in order to increase production capacity and ensure the country's raw materials independence.
